In the summer of 2023 the government announced a massive rise to the Immigration Health Surcharge. We now know that the earliest date the increase will take effect will be 16th January 2024.
When it takes effect the charge will increase from £470 per year to £776 per year for children, students, their dependants and youth mobility workers. The charge will increase from £624 per year to £1,035 per year for all other applicants.
The Immigration (Health Charge) (Amendment) Order 2023 which provides for the increase has been laid before parliament and confirms that the increase will come into force on the later of 16th January 2024 or the twenty-first day after the day on which it is made. The Order needs to be approved by both Houses of Parliament.
This massive increase is likely to affect many individuals applying for entry clearance or leave to remain within and outside the immigration rules.
Regardless of the type of application an individual is making, every effort should be made to submit the application before 16th January 2024 to avoid the impact of this increase. Contact us in good time if you would like help with an application.
