The immigration law committee of the Law Society has published an excellent practice note for immigration lawyers carrying out Judicial Review work for clients. Muhunthan Paramesvaran, a partner in the immigration department at Wilsons, is a member of the committee. The committee exists to keep the law under review and to promote improvements in immigration and asylum law, practice and procedure. It has been a longstanding project of the committee to develop a detailed practice note for solicitors who undertake immigration judicial review work. The need for this note has arisen due to the rapidly changing case law in the field, the particular vulnerability of the clients involved, the transfer of certain classes of application to the Upper Tribunal and the importance of maintaining and raising standards in this area. The consequences of getting things wrong can be drastic for the clients involved and also for individual solicitors. The practice note is designed to assist practitioners in their understanding of the law and practice in this complex and challenging area of law. It does not seek to discourage applications for judicial review but rather to encourage its use when appropriate and to ensure it is done to the highest standard.The practice note can be found in full on the Law Society website;
