Laura studied Social Anthropology with Development at the University of Sussex. She converted to Law with commendation in 2011 and passed the Legal Practice Course with distinction in 2013 at BPP University Law School.

Laura joined Wilsons in August 2016 as a caseworker.  She assists the public law department on a wide range of cases including community care services provided by local authorities and civil claims for unlawful detention. Laura has a particular interest in working with vulnerable adults with complex needs and has extensive experience of supporting victims of domestic and sexual violence.

Prior to joining Wilsons, Laura worked in frontline women’s services. At the Nia Project she managed refuge accommodation in Hackney for women and children fleeing domestic violence. At Nia she also worked as an Independent Domestic Violence Advocate (IDVA) presenting high risk cases as part of the Haringey domestic violence Multi Agency Risk Assessment Conference (MARAC) and providing an IDVA service at the Haringey Specialist Domestic Violence Court. Laura then spent four years coordinating a support service in Tower Hamlets for women involved in prostitution.

At law school Laura was involved in several pro bono initiatives and received an award for outstanding contribution to the BPP Housing Legal Advice Clinic. She completed a research internship at BPP in partnership with the Anti Trafficking Legal Project that was shortlisted for Best New Pro Bono Activity at the 2014 Attorney General Student Awards.

Laura has lived and worked abroad with community development NGOs in Zimbabwe and Mozambique and with anti-trafficking projects, supporting women in Thailand and Cyprus.

Laura is a member of Young Legal Aid Lawyers and part of the social mobility sub group. She has written in the Guardian on remuneration for trainee solicitors. She is also currently the safeguarding trustee for a charity in Hertfordshire that supports women affected by trafficking or sexual exploitation within the sex industry.
