This information was last updated: 5 April 2016
On 1st April 2013 a number of areas of legal work were removed from the scope of legal aid.
Since 1st April 2013 legal aid is no longer available for any aspect of immigration and nationality law and practice.
If you have an immigration problem and you are unable to afford to instruct a lawyer on a private fee paying basis one of the few remaining sources of help available to you is your local Member of Parliament.
You can contact your MP and provide details of your problem and your MP may be able to help you. Your MP does not charge for any advice or assistance that is provided.
MPs have regular surgeries at which they meet their local constituents. Your MP will see you if you live in his/her parliamentary constituency.
You can identify your MP by visiting the House of Commons website at http://www.parliament.uk/get-involved/contact-your-mp/
This will give you the contact details of your MP and you can proceed to make an appointment to see your MP
Alternatively you can ring the House of Commons information line on 0207 219 4272
