Value for Money
We understand that the cost of legal services is an important consideration for our clients. At Wilsons we work as efficiently as possible without compromising on quality. By focusing on the key issues right from the start we can ensure that you get value for money.
Clear About Cost
We make sure that there will be nothing unexpected. We will agree costs with you in advance. We are happy to discuss a range of funding options.
For new clients we offer an initial no obligation one hour fixed fee diagnostic consultation. The consultation can be in person, by phone or by exchange of email. This is an opportunity for you to seek initial advice on your case, get a second opinion, or gather sufficient information to take the case forward yourself.
The cost of the initial diagnostic consultation will be charged at our standard hourly rates. These depend on the seniority and experience of your chosen lawyer and are in the following range:
Partners £250 – £300
Associate Solicitors £200 – £250
Assistant Solicitors £175 – £200
Trainee Solicitors and Senior Caseworkers £125 – £150
Caseworkers £100 – £125
Solicitor Apprentice £80
A higher rate may need to be charged if you require an urgent or out of hour’s consultation.
All fees quoted on this page are exclusive of VAT and disbursements.

You can read more about the fees for certain types of immigration applications and appeals here.
If you are on a very low income legal aid may be available for your case. This means that you do not have to pay for your legal costs – the government pays. A means and merits test has to be met before you qualify for legal aid.
We have been awarded a contract by the government to provide legal aid in immigration law, family law, public law, community care, and claims against public authorities.
Legal aid is only available for a limited type of these cases and we are restricted in the number of cases we are able to take on. To find out if the legal issue you need our help with is available on legal aid and whether you meet the means and merits test please go to Check if you can get legal aid – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) and follow the instructions. If you do qualify for legal aid for your issue contact us to find out if we have capacity for a new legal aid case.
